laniew1: (Jude and Ewan)

More Jude/Obi-Wan, which is looking as if at some point it might veer into Jude/Obi-Wan/Hayden territory… though I’m not guaranteeing anything. Jude is kind of possessive; it’s like he’s channeling Anakin somehow.

Eve wouldn’t come.

Measures of Insanity – Part 2

Eve wouldn’t come.

Jude had rang her of course. He’d thought Ewan might have wanted her there, and she was his wife after all and could take care of all the medical stuff that Jude was getting strange looks for doing.

She’d been his first call after he’d called Jonny and told him to get his arse on a plane and no, he didn’t care if he brought the crazy woman as long as he was here like now.

He was possibly going a bit mad.

He also thought he could be excused. Finding his best mate lying on his couch, half-dead for only god knows how long (though he knew it couldn’t have been more than three days at the top) was enough to drive the sanest man a bit loony.

He’d possibly screamed at Eve that she was a selfish bitch that was only thinking of herself when she’d told him that she wouldn’t come. She’d yelled back at him that Ewan was the one that had chosen to leave and she was in the middle of filming and that she’d send the girls along in a bit so long as he promised not to sleep with the nanny.

He thought that a bit rude, not only because her bloody husband was lying unconscious in a hospital but also because their nanny was like fifty.

And then there was the pesky fact that Ewan had almost died on him as he waited for the ambulance to arrive.

Once he’d calmed down, taking deep breaths and envisioning Eve being involved in some horribly disfiguring accident, he realized that the nanny thing might have been her way of getting a few jabs in while she still could. Before the news that Sienna had been fucking one of her co-stars hit the tabloids and it turned into a game of who cheated on who first.

She was still a selfish bitch for not coming though.

“Jude,” Jonny appeared beside him, coffee in both hands and Jude eyed them trying to figure out which one was his.

He was very particular about how he took his coffee.

Jonny rolled his eyes, shoving the one in his left hand into Jude’s before turning to Angie and smiling.

“He’s not giving you a hard time is he?”

Jude glanced over at her; Angie sat primly, legs crossed, next to him. One chair (that Jonny had been occupying before he’d gotten tired of the silence and went for coffee) between them because if they sat directly next to each other there was likely to be hair pulling and name calling and a chair between them allowed each to think they were totally alone in a really quiet hospital hallway.

“He hasn’t said a word, I still feel oddly abused though.”

Jude rolled his eyes.

Because how could he have forgotten that everything had to be about Angelina? He’d known her for too many fucking years to have forgotten that.

He’d been on a set with this woman for months on end and it was a miracle that they hadn’t killed each other… though it hadn’t been for lack of trying.

And then there was the years she’d spent with Jonny that were supposed to be ancient history, that were supposed to be over and buried and the remains salted in the earth for good measure.

He couldn’t believe that Jonny had forgotten what a controlling bitch she could be. He had a feeling that Angelina would remind him of that soon enough.

“Has anyone come out yet?” Jonny settled once more into the seat between them, hand reaching for Angie’s which Jude tried not to gaze upon in horror. He was pretty sure hell had frozen over and they just had not yet received the message.

“No,” Jude rubbed at his forehead, he should have had Jonny get some aspirin, or at the very least knock him over the head.

There was movement and then Angie’s well-manicured hand appeared in front of him, two tablets sitting there innocently, he glanced over at her with suspicion.

“I wouldn’t try to poison you in a hospital,” she rolled her eyes.

Jonny just grinned at them like they were two children that pushed and shoved each other but would really learn years later that they loved each other madly. Jude hoped he wasn’t putting money on that notion.

Jude took them, hoping for the best and put them in his mouth. Grimacing at the taste of the coffee, he thought there was nothing worse than hospital coffee.

“At the very least I would wait until you were somewhere secluded where there would be no chance of you being treated.”

“You hate me don’t you,” Jude grumbled. He leaned his head back and closed his eyes. Jonny leaned against his side and it was almost like old times, except where Ewan would be noisily chirping away (because he hated silence of any sort and always endeavored to make as much noise as humanly possible) instead there was only Angie’s voice.

“What’s not to hate?” he opened one eye but instead of Angie glaring at him like she could kill him with her eyes alone there was barely concealed worry and he had to harbor the thought that possibly her animosity was just her way of trying to keep him from dwelling to closely on the fact that Ewan was in this hospital somewhere and the last time anyone had seen him (and that would have been all Jude and the horrific ambulance ride to the hospital) he’d been barely breathing.

“We don’t spend enough time together anymore,” Jude murmured as if he’d just realized it, instead of it being something that he’d been thinking about for years. Jonny made a noise of agreement next to him and Angie hummed, thought he hadn’t really been talking to or about her. And would really rather not have the reminder that she was right on the other side of Jonny.

“I was thinking that once Ewan is better we could hang out a bit, I don’t have anything going on, I know you don’t,” Jonny began.

“He has that play thing he was talking about doing,” Jude said softly. “And The Island premiere and press junket stuff.”

“The Island stuff is just a couple of days, the play we can work around. Plus he’s sick so they’re going to insist he take some time off,” Jonny said it so matter-of-factly that Jude knew that while he’d been getting coffee he’d also been making phone calls to agents and publicists and the director of the play.

He wasn’t sure how he’d managed it in the 30 minutes he’d been gone but he didn’t put it past Jonny to have a time machine hidden away somewhere that he used for times just like this.

“It was an allergic reaction,” the doctor repeated, Jude just gazed at him in incomprehension. Because had the man not seen Ewan with the not breathing and the clammy skin and looking like he was fucking dying.

“An allergic reaction,” Jude repeated dumbly.

A glance over and he was glad that Jonny looked just as confused as he did, Angie was hiding a grin and it sounded like she was muttering something that sounded suspiciously like ‘weak constitution’ and ‘wimpy assed Scott’ under her breath.

At least until Jonny elbowed her, not hard enough by any means, in the side and then she just stood there rolling her eyes and very badly, considering she was an actress, hiding a smirk.

“Did you not see?” Jude waved his hands in the general direction of where he thought they were hiding Ewan. Because like death, and not breathing. Were these people all idiots?!

“It was a very serious allergic reaction, he could have died if you hadn’t called for help when you did,” the doctor assured them all the while somehow making it sound like it was all Jude’s fault for not getting to Ewan’s earlier.

It wasn’t even like they’d known that Ewan was allergic to anything. Weren’t you supposed to be tested for stuff that could likely kill you when you were a child so you knew to steer clear of it?

“We’ve sedated him, he’s relaxing comfortably. There’s really no need for you to stay,” the doctor continued though from the tone of his voice he likely knew that there was no way in hell that Jude was leaving without seeing Ewan awake and breathing on his own.

“I’ll have a nurse show you where his room is.”

Ewan was still and silent on the bed, Jude hovered in the door only entering when Angelina gave him a mighty shove from behind. He glared at her and she smiled winningly at him, he snorted and narrowed his eyes at Jonny who had looked into the room and was now walking away from it with cell phone in hand.

“Where’s he off to now?” Jude asked crossly. All that talk about spending more time together and now after just a glimpse of Ewan Jonny was walking away?

“He mumbled something about phone calls,” Angie shrugged, allowed the door to close behind them and stood at the end of Ewan’s bed.

“He was gone for thirty minutes, he had enough time to ring everyone we know plus give an interview,” Jude touched Ewan’s hand, warm. Fingers moved over his arm of their own volition and he smiled at the strong pulse that beat against his fingertips.

“Right then,” Jonny pushed the door open. Walking the few steps and standing next to Angelina, Jude tried not to notice the arm around the waist; it would only serve to drive him more bonkers that he was already feeling.

“Who were you calling now?”

“Charley and a few others to let them know that Ewan was okay,” he smiled innocently and Jude arched a brow at him and waited.

“The boy wanted me to give him a call back when we got news on Ewan, he’s in the middle of filming and they won’t let him walk off the set so he said to tell Ewan when he woke that he’d be here as soon as he could.”

“You called Hayden,” Jude said pointedly, he ignored Angie’s smirk and Jonny’s grin.

“That’s what I said.”

“Why would you do that?”

“Because he’s Ewan’s friend… Just like the rest of us… and he asked me to.”

Jude scowled.

“You know the jealousy thing is cute but it’s getting kind of old,” Jonny rolled his eyes. Angelina was more direct.

“Also this is a hospital so they would probably appreciate it if you didn’t piss on the walls.”
