laniew1: (Jude and Ewan)

Right then… so its looking more and more likely like the Jude/Obi-Wan/Hayden is going to happen… eventually.

Also, I’ve decided that since everyone seemed to enjoy Obi-Wan and Ewan interacting on the Force-plane I’ll most likely continue that.

Ewan hadn’t moved on the bed, Jude thought he’d been as freaked out about that fact as he could be already and thought he should be moving on to calm acceptance.

Measures of Insanity – Part 3

Ewan hadn’t moved on the bed, Jude thought he’d been as freaked out about that fact as he could be already and thought he should be moving on to calm acceptance.

Instead he was still freaked out and if the nurses looked in and saw him clutching at Ewan’s hand they very wisely averted their eyes and didn’t say anything.

They were probably even now selling the story to the press, someone would sneak in one of those newfangled camera phones and snap a picture of it and they’d end up the cover of all the major papers.

Unless someone more important got either married, divorced or killed.

Jonny stuck his head through the door and Jude scowled at him.

Phone in his hand, so Jonny had either called updates to Eve or the boy. He’d almost rather Jonny put aside his animosity of Eve and called her instead… but he knew it was the boy.

Jonny shoved the phone in his pocket, tilted his head to the side and studied him. Jude attempted to look calm and collected and totally unaffected by the fact that Ewan was still unconscious.

“Go get coffee,” Jonny raised an eyebrow and pointed at the door.

“Excuse me?” Jude raised his own brow in confusion. He wasn’t leaving to get coffee. If he looked pitiful enough the nurses brought it for him.

“You are driving me batty and I’m not the one lying in that bed. Its no wonder Ewan hasn’t woke, with all your hovering if he did he’d probably think he wasn’t long for this world. So go get coffee, go jerk off in the loo, go pick a fight with Angie and let her kick your ass, I don’t care. Just go somewhere that is not here.”

Jude smacked the side of the coffee machine, scowling and muttering under his breath.

“Is that the way that you sweet talk your women? No wonder they leave for greener pastures the moment you turn your head,” Angelina’s low voice and Jude hung his head.

He just couldn’t win.

“Aren’t you afraid to let Jonny out of your sight for extended periods of time? I mean last time you left the flat and ended up divorced,” Jude growled.

A very not ladylike shove and Angelina was standing in front of the machine, feeding coins in.

“I’m going to let that slide just this once because you are obviously quite insane from grief over Ewan attempting to clock out on you,” Angie raised an eyebrow at him that indicated that the next time he said something impolite she wasn’t above taking her pound of flesh.

“You’re not a very nice person, I don’t know what Jonny sees in you,” Jude muttered. Angelina ignored him, watching instead as a cup dropped and filled halfway with something that resembled tar but that the buttons on the machine insisted was coffee.

Angelina patted him on the back and that expression on her face was one that he’d seen many times before.

It was her patented ‘I think you’re an ass but Jonny loves you so I’ll try not to kill you in front of him’ look. Ewan had named most of the important ones (and by important, the ones that Angelina kept shooting at them) two months into Jonny and Angelina’s first go at a relationship. Jude wondered if he’d be able to add anymore to the list now that it seemed that Jonny had lost his mind and gone back to her.

“Maybe I’ll have Jonny call Hayden and see if he isn’t sure he can’t make it up here any sooner, I know Ewan would be happy to see him,” Angelina’s expression was positively evil and Jude scowled. Being nice to Angelina wasn’t in his makeup. Ewan was the one that had played the peacemaker before; Jude didn’t think he was up to fulfilling that role all by himself.

Jude sipped his tar and looked away, mostly so he didn’t have to see Angie’s triumphant smile but also because Jonny was coming down the hallway toward them.

Jonny was smiling and Jude’s eyes widened. There was only a couple of things that made Jonny smile like that and since Angie had been helping him destroy his body he was pretty sure sex was in no way involved.

“Ewan’s awake.”

Obi-Wan opened his eyes to a bright world with many people that he didn’t know staring at him with hopeful faces.

He blinked, raised a hand to rub against his chin and blinked again.

Because no beard, some stubble but the beard that he’d cultivated for years was gone. Anakin was going to be a bit upset about that. He was almost unnaturally attached to Obi-Wan’s beard and he’d never gotten a very articulate response to his query of why.

An attractive man with blonde hair pushed through the door with a woman with long black hair and overly large lips and another petite looking man with short cropped black hair following.

“Mr. McGregor how do you feel?” a man in a white coat leaned over him, pressing something cold and metallic under his shirt and Obi-Wan felt a bit taken advantage of.

He hadn’t even asked before he’d just shoved his hands there, even Anakin had learned that he had to at least make some sort of an overture before setting hands on him.

“I feel…” he started and then stopped. Because it had just dawned on him what they’d called him and he felt oddly unprepared.

He’d spent so much time with his counterpart discussing his world that they hadn’t even talked about the world that his counterpart had come from. Mostly because Obi-Wan hadn’t managed to gain access to it but also because Ewan, stuck in his world, had the more immediate need for information then Obi-Wan who seemed to be lingering in some sort of limbo.

“Ewan?” the blonde man stepped forward, hand laying over his gently and Obi-Wan blinked again.

Was this how Ewan had felt? Because he felt disconcerted and was unsure if he should answer to the name that he was being called. No wonder Ewan had been all of sorts, he kept wanting to correct them and tell them that wasn’t his name but then they would likely think him crazy and he was very certain that Ewan wouldn’t approve of that.

“…odd,” he managed to finish. The woman snickered and looked to be muttering something under her breath.

“Angelina,” the black-haired man scolded though his tone was reminiscent of the scoldings that Obi-Wan tried to give Anakin. The ‘I know I should discipline you but you actually make some sense and I’ve already laughed which looks bad especially since Mace is glaring at us’ scoldings.

The black haired man stepped forward. “Jude,” he said softly, hand latching onto the blond haired man whose name it obviously was and pulling him back so the healer with the cold metal instruments could annoy Obi-Wan further. “Give the doctor some room to work.”

Jude scowled but relented, allowing himself to be pulled to the side of the room as the Healer once more laid his hands on him.

Obi-Wan winced as the Healer pressed his stomach and blinked as he heard what he could swear was a growl emanating from Jude’s throat.

The black haired man held him back with a firm grip when he would have pushed the Healer out of the way. “Jonny,” Jude muttered as he tried to shake off the hands holding him back, Angelina’s had joined Jonny’s at some point when Obi-Wan hadn’t been paying attention.

“I’ll have the nurses bring something for you to eat, maybe some broth and jell-o?” the Healer asked brightly as he laid his cold metal thing around his neck and smiled at him.

Obi-Wan just stared at him blankly, unsure of how to respond. He wished for unconsciousness and Ewan so that he could fill in gaps before he managed to mess up everything beyond repair.

Like he was sure Ewan was doing to his own life.

He didn’t think he even wanted to know how badly Anakin was over-protecting his counterpart. Perhaps as badly as it appeared that Jude wanted to be doing.

Or would be doing if he wasn’t being physically restrained from doing so by Jonny and Angelina.

He would have to remember to thank them when he got the chance.

Jude had gone to the loo, he’d excused himself and locked himself in a stall and pressed a hand to his mouth and tried not to scream and/or cry.

He let his head rest against the cool metal and concentrated on breathing. Concentrated on not thinking about the fear and pain that had been more then visible in Ewan’s eyes.

Once he’d gotten himself under some semblance of control he straightened, he was going to be the strong, dependable one for the first time in his life. Always it had been him leaning on Ewan but now it appeared it was his turn and he wasn’t going to let his best mate down.

He opened the stall door and stared at himself in the mirror. Breathed again and concentrated on erasing the traces of fear that he swore he could see reflected back at him.

He headed down the hallway back towards Ewan’s room and wished suddenly that he’d stayed there when he spotted Jonny, Angie and Ewan’s doctor standing outside his door. Heads bent close together and it wasn’t so much the worry on either Jonny or the Doctors face that got to him. It was the worry evident on Angie’s.

“What’s going on now?” Jude stopped, glanced at the closed door and wished for the ability to look through doors.

Had Ewan lapsed back into another coma? He didn’t think his sanity could take that and hoped for something else.

“…memory loss,” the doctor said and Jude stared at him blankly. Looked over at Jonny for an explanation, which was not forthcoming. Jonny instead looked back at him with a slightly shocked expression and Jude realized that it wasn’t a good look on him.

“Memory loss?”

“There were a few seconds in the ambulance where Mr. McGregor was without any oxygen going to his brain,” Jude looked over at Angie for the quip that he was sure she was dying to spew and instead found her looking pale and worried. If shocked wasn’t a good look for Jonny, worry wasn’t a good look on Angelina.

“How extensive is the memory loss?” Jude finally asked softly. There were some things that Ewan might not mind forgetting, but there were others… his girls, his family… he wouldn’t want to forget those things.

“We won’t know until we do some tests, we’ll start in the morning. Let him get a good nights rest and see where we stand.”

Jude nodded blankly, staring at the door. The doctor squeezed his arm as he passed and left the three of them standing there.

Jonny pulled his phone out of his pocket and Jude didn’t say a word. They all deserved to know, if Ewan wasn’t going to remember them, they deserved to know.

Even the boy.

“I’m going to go make some calls,” he said softly and Jude nodded.

“Call Eve first,” he said softly, Jonny eyed him suspiciously. “The boy will probably take longer to calm down.”

Hayden had tried to keep his cellphone on him at all times.

That proved to be impossible because he was filming a period piece and the wardrobe people’d had fit because it ruined the line of the tight pants they kept forcing him into.

He didn’t so much care about the line of the pants, he cared about missing a phone call from Jonny Lee Miller telling him that Ewan was either okay or had taken a turn for the worse.

One of the production assistants tossed him his phone as soon as the scene was done and he ran back to his trailer, no messages. No missed calls and he closed his eyes and tried to make himself believe that no news was good news.

He pressed the phone to his forehead and decided that this all totally fucking sucked, he glanced over at the calendar tacked to his wall, one side with tape the other with a smiley face sticker that Ewan had slipped into the binder that he’d kept his script pages for Revenge of The Sith.

32 days and he wondered if he would be sane if he had to wait that entire time to see Ewan.

He should be there, should be having fist fights with Jude Law over who was closer to Ewan (which unfortunately Hayden knew Jude would win strictly on years alone) and thus who got to make decisions on his well being (which they both knew would be Eve even though Ewan had called him days before he’d gotten sick announcing that he and Eve were taking a break from each other and did Hayden think it insane that Ewan wanted to take another trip around the world on his motorbike?).

He sank into his couch and tried the deep breathing exercises that Tove swore by. Tove had tried to teach him meditation and stuff before he’d gone off to film Attack of The Clones and Hayden had tried it twice before he’d decided it wasn’t really his thing.

The phone ringing pulled him out of his musings and he juggled it like a hot potato before he finally managed to flip it open.

“Yes?”

“Hayden? This is Jonny,” Hayden felt his heart stutter for a split second. He didn’t know Jonny well enough to be able to tell from his voice whether this was to be good news or bad news.

“He’s awake,” Jonny continued. Hayden breathed a sigh of relief.

He was okay; Ewan was going to be fine. He grinned; because he’d never really had any doubt that Ewan would be fine. He’d swear to that fact on a stack of bibles.

Because there wasn’t much that could take Ewan McGregor down with the exception of a well placed knee to the balls which Hayden had the pleasure of seeing when Eve had brought the girls to the set and Clara had scrambled over her father and nailed him a good one.

The gasp and half a screech had been amusing, as had the expression on Ewan’s face as he’d fought to keep his language clean in front of his girls. He didn’t swear in front of them though every adult in the room could probably imagine the dialogue that was going through his head.

Clara had cried and apologized and Ewan had hugged her even as his eyes had watered over and he’d looked as if he wanted to curl up into himself and have a good cry himself.

Hayden had already been a little bit in love with him by that point; he’d totally given up the fight after that. If Ewan hadn’t been a married man and so perfectly straight he probably would have tried his hand at seducing him.

“There’ve been some minor complications but we’re dealing with them as they arise.”

“Minor complications?” Hayden felt his stomach knot up. That didn’t sound good at all and if he was feeling this crazy he wondered how close Jude was to losing his mind.

Jonny hummed to himself for a second. As if he was trying to decide how much he could tell Hayden before Hayden lost his mind and the production company sued Jonny for time lost.

“It’ll take to long to explain over the phone, when you get here we’ll fill you in.”

Hayden dropped his phone and wondered hazily if he could plead family emergency.
