This is a Supernatural/Dark Angel Cross-Over.
Pairings will contain Sam/Jess, Max/Alec among others (oh my god I’m writing het again, though it won’t be blatant het).
For those of you waiting for chapters of Missing and Healer!Obi-Wan and more of the Jude/Obi-Wan new chapters are coming soon.
The table I’m putting all these links in can be found here.
Title: The Importance of Genetics
Fandom:Supernatural/Dark Angel
Pairings: Sam/Jess, Alec/Max
Prompt:001 - Beginnings
Word Count: 841
Rating: PG
Author's Notes: So totally AU that it isn’t even funny. Instead of John Winchester going to Jericho, Dean went instead and subsequently disappeared.
The Importance of Genetics – Pt 1
Sam didn’t know that four words could change your life so totally.
“Your brother is missing.”
It had been such a great day to, so he should have known that something was bound to fuck it up. He really hadn’t thought it would be his father breaking into his apartment though.
If he’d thought about it breaking and entering seemed more Dean’s thing. Not his fathers.
But there John Winchester had been, dusting off his coat not saying anything. And Sam didn’t say anything either because at the time he’d been vividly recalling the last conversation that he’d had with his father which consisted mostly of him standing there stoically as his father told him that if he left he should never come back and Dean standing right behind him looking disappointed and torn and sad and angry all at once.
“Why are you here?” Sam had repeated because he couldn’t have heard his father right.
“Your brother is missing,” John had said again. Voice clear and clean and all syllables distinctly pronounced even though Sam had to be hearing him wrong. They had both blinked rapidly when the light snapped on.
“Sam?” he determinedly had not winced when he heard Jessica’s voice. His fathers’ eyes had seemed pointedly locked on the young woman standing there and it had taken all of Sam’s willpower to bite his tongue to keep from ordering Jess out of the room.
“Dad,” he had sighed with resignation. At least it hadn’t been Dean there for the introductions because Sam knew his brother well enough to know that he would have tried to hit on her and then tried to get rid of her. He had walked over to her, arm going around Jess’s waist, pulling her tight against his side. “This is my girlfriend Jessica.”
John had nodded once and his eyes returned to Sam.
“This is your dad?” Jess had sounded thrilled and that had left Sam wracking his brain trying to remember what he’d actually told her about his family. He only remembered mentioning that his mother had died when he was a baby, he couldn’t remember what he’d actually told her about his dad and Dean.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you sir,” she’d moved forward and offered her hand, John had took it after a second and Sam had thought that it was the most surreal sight that he’d ever seen. His girlfriends hand swallowed up in his fathers.
“Dean?” he’d prompted because his dad had looked sort of lost when he looked at Jessica and Sam wasn’t sure if it was because she was another sign of how much distance had grown between them over two years or that she sort of resembled old pictures that he vaguely remembered of his mother when she was young and impressionable like Jess was.
“Your brother Dean?” Jess had moved back to stand beside him, a comforting presence at his side that he was thankful for at the moment.
“Yeah.”
“Right,” John had run a hand through his hair, glanced at Jess again. “I think we should maybe talk about this somewhere else.”
“Jess is my girlfriend dad, she can stay.”
John had stared at him, his eyes boring holes right through him and Sam had been about three seconds from asking Jess to let them have a moment when he started to talk.
And then Sam had wished that he had asked Jess to leave.
Because once John finished explaining…
“Dean was in Jericho California investigating a series of missing, presumed dead men.”
“You let him go on a hunting trip by himself?”
“He’s an adult Sammy; I’ve been letting him do his own thing for years.”
“You mean you couldn’t control him so you just let him do his thing. And now it’s gotten him in trouble, or killed. And don’t call me Sammy, dad. I’m an adult now to, call me Sam.”
…well once John had finished going through what he knew, which wasn’t much; just that Dean had been in Jericho investigating some murders and he’d thought he’d been getting close to something and then John hadn’t heard anything for over three days, well Jess was bound and determined that she wasn’t going to be left behind if Sam was leaving.
“What about your classes?”
“I can miss a couple of classes; this is your family Sam. Someday they’re going to be my family too.”
So now Jess was sitting in the front seat of the car, listening with rapt attention to his father as he went over survival techniques and do’s and don’t.
Later they would curl up in a hotel bed together and she would whisper that she loved him as his father tapped away on a laptop searching for information.
But for now she listened and absorbed and periodically would turn to stare at Sam like she’d never seen him before.
He really should have just sent her out of the room.
It would have saved him from years of worrying about her.
