Oh my god… *stares in shock*.
It’s done.
All that’s left now is the short story that I talked about here.
Now I guess I need to go look at some of my other WiP.
TITLE: Not All Superheroes Wear Capes – Buffy/Lex
AUTHOR: Melanie
RATING: NC-17 (This part PG)
DISCLAIMER: I own nothing at all, least of all those contained within.
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6 & Part 7.
Not All Superheroes Wear Capes – Part 8
Buffy’s friend Angel didn’t like him, which only seemed fair since Lex really didn’t like him either.
He didn’t like Spike either, but at least Spike was being calm and not telling Buffy she was making horrible mistake. He’d said it on the phone but by the time they’d made arrangements to go to Los Angeles to get Buffy and Dawn’s things he seemed to have calmed down.
Either that or he thought she was going to change her mind on her own.
Lex wouldn’t allow that though, now that he had Buffy back he wasn’t letting her go.
Which meant putting up with Angel glaring at him, Spike glaring at him, Xander glaring at him and the girls (all Slayers in Training Buffy had informed him on the car ride from the airport to the hotel) leering at him.
The only people on his side were Willow (who was helping Buffy pack the things that wouldn’t/couldn’t be shipped), Dawn (who seemed to find the whole thing vastly amusing and was giggling to herself off in a corner), Giles (who just sighed and cleaned his glasses a lot) and Clark (who’d refused to leave the car saying the Lex needed to face this by himself).
He would have felt safer with Clark at his back.
And honestly he was more worried about the girls then any of the men. There were more of them and if they all became of like mind he didn’t think there would be anything left of him by the time Buffy got to him, let alone Clark.
“… is that all you’re taking?” Willow was asking and Lex turned his back on those glaring and leering at him and watched Buffy walk down the stairs.
He kind of liked how the light shined on her face and hair lighting her up it seemed from within.
“The rest is going to be shipped,” Buffy glared at Angel who tried to smile at her but failed under the weight of her glare.
“Buffy…” he started, his hands out in front of him in a placating manner. Buffy didn’t seem to be buying it.
“The. Rest. Is. Going. To. Be. Shipped.” She stated it in a clipped, no nonsense sort of way.
She was still a little pissed off. Lex didn’t blame her.
Buffy had been hoping to avoid a confrontation between Angel and Spike especially since she’d finally made a choice and it had been neither of them.
Lex didn’t smirk but only because he’d won the battle for Buffy’s heart even though he hadn’t known it had been in contest.
And now there was no way she would choose one of those two, because there should have been no reason to have to come to Los Angeles but when the shippers had arrived to pack up her and Dawn’s belongings they’d been sent away.
No one was fessing up on who had told the movers to leave and threatened them with a battle ax but he’d split even money on Angel and Spike.
They were acting a bit like overgrown children.
“So are we ready?” Dawn bounced over to them, all smiles and Buffy let her hand link with Lex’s like it was the most natural thing in the universe.
She smiled at him and he leaned down to kiss her gently, ignoring the snarls that he was sure were coming from Angel and Spike.
“We’re ready.”
***************************************************************
“You really lived here?” Dawn stared at the building doubtfully and Clark’s expression mirrored hers.
Lex cocked his head and stared at the building, it did look a bit more run down then he remembered.
He should have bought it, demolished it and put up something that could have brought some money into the community.
But Buffy just smiled, hand tightening in Lex’s.
She’d known bringing Dawn here that her sister wouldn’t understand.
She didn’t know Clark well enough to determine what he thought, but she thought that his thoughts were along the same lines as Dawn’s. This building wasn’t where either of them would expect to see Lex Luthor.
But Buffy saw Lex here. She saw the best parts of him. And she’d wanted to see the building where it had all began
She saw Lex waiting for her after she got off from the diner. She saw Lex bringing her donuts and hot chocolate in bed and rubbing her feet when they ached. And smiling at her and telling her he loved her.
She knew none of them looked at this run down building with graffiti on the walls and broken windows and saw a home.
But she did.
She saw the first home that she’d ever shared with Lex and she knew that even though they were going back home to a castle in Smallville that this building, this dilapidated hovel that should have been condemned long before they’d ever lived in it was their first true home.
She smiled and pulled gently on Lex’s hand, and when he looked at her with love not hidden in his eyes her smiled deepened.
“I’m ready to go home now.”

Date: 2005-07-17 07:20 pm (UTC)I'm hiding my B/A shipper hat for a few minutes, to *SQUEE* over just how sweet Buffy and Lex are together. I love how you traced it all back to something so sweetly first-home-together, and what it meant to both of them.
When I first started reading this chapter, however, I thought I had missed a post. I would have liked to see a bit more of what happened between ch. 7 & 8, if only to smooth out the transition. Of course, considering how long this fic has taken, I can understand you wanting to wrap things up quickly :)
Now. Overall.
Your B/L rocks. I love how they played off each other, and how you meshed their lives and memories. Clark's reaction to it, too, was just right, as were those of everyone else (*B/A hat: Angel! Buffy and Angel!*). Also, you wrote the B/L reunion wonderfully, though I would have liked to see Buffy explain why she left, and what was going on in her life just before/after.
That said, I kept hoping for a Buffy/Luthor confrontation, but it never came :( I really wanted to see her deal with the evil daddy, especially since she has so much experience dealing with...well, evil.
I was also wondering: do you consider this AU, with Lex never going evil? Or does Buffy play into that? I think too much when I get into stories like this :P
Thank you for posting this lovely work of fiction :D
*puts back on her B/A shipper hat ;)*
