Other People's Toys 1/2

Boone had never intended to come out on the Island. He’d always figured that they’d be rescued before it ever became an issue.

And it wasn’t something that he thought was anybody’s business besides his own. Besides the fact that he’d always congratulated himself on his remarkable self-control.

And then three weeks had gone by and Jack started running around in no shirt and cut-offs and Sayid had taken to fishing in the ocean in the nude and Sawyer made thinly veiled innuendoes that could be taken any number of ways but always seemed to be sexual in nature.

That was when Boone decided that the Island might be his own personal Hell.

Three very attractive men and of course they would all be straight… and they would all be looking at the same woman.

Hell, his own personal hell.

Because Jack made eyes at Kate, Sayid made eyes at Kate, Sawyer made eyes at Kate. The only one not making eyes at Kate was Charlie and that was because he was making eyes at Claire.

Boone stopped short of reminding him that she was pregnant with another mans child… because well it was obvious.

He’d taken to wandering a short distance into the forest at night and jerking off. His right hand and he had a beautiful monagamous relationship.

He’d lay there naked (because what was the point of jerking off with your clothes on) eyes closed and images of Sayid with water dripping down his back, Jack with sweat running down his, Sawyer leering at him flashing in front of him… three sets of very different eyes staring at him with lust and longing.

It was a fantasy, it was his fantasy and if he wanted them to stare at him with longing than they would.

He pressed his lips together and bit his tongue when he came, he knew if he made any noise Jack and Sayid would bolt into the forest to rescue him.

And unless they were rescuing him from abstinence he wanted them to stay far, far away.

Shannon never asked him where he disappeared to at night, she just stared at him with knowing eyes and a smirk and rolled her eyes at him.

She thought he should say something, choose someone and stake a claim. She didn’t understand that they were surrounded by straight men and his experience with straight men had been that they punched when they thought someone of the same sex was coming onto them.

So Boone never thought about coming out on the Island until the day that Shannon did it for him.

He’d known since he was eight that he couldn’t tell her anything that he didn’t want the whole world to know, he should have remembered that.

******************************************************************************

It was a bright, sunny day. A few clouds in the sky, no sign of rain which meant it would fall in the afternoon and probably with no warning.

Boone stretched and went back to filling water bottles. More than half of the survivors were living at the caves now. Space was getting limited, blankets were even more limited and people were pairing off as it started to get colder at night.

The popular statement was conserving bodyheat, said with a straight face and a nod. Everyone just nodded in return and didn’t say a word.

But everyone knew that it was sex.

Sex, sex, sex… everyone had it on the brain.

Kate had made her choice, and it hadn’t been Jack or Sayid or Sawyer which had surprised everyone since they’d all thought that she’d choose one of them at least.

Instead she’d chosen some guy that Boone had seen twice on the beach and once at the caves.

He hoped they’d be very happy together, and he could even manage to think that with a straight face without breaking into sudden laughter.

Because the guy she’d chosen was nowhere in the league of the three that she could have had and Boone had to wonder if she’d purposefully not chosen one of them.

Jack, Sayid and Sawyer were getting along, a fragile truce that probably would have been blown all to hell if she’d chosen one of them.

He peered at the bottle that he was filling that refused to fill more than half way. He rotated it in his hands and noted that it had a cut in one side.

They were running out of bottles. He thought the plastic they were made from wasn’t intended for constant refilling, he kept forgetting to mention that to Jack and Sayid when he took the bottles back although he was sure they’d noted that he was bringing back less each time.

At least they hadn’t accused him of hoarding water. Everyone was trying to get along.

“They ready to go back?” Boone jumped and turned but managed to keep from screaming like a girl. He scowled and Sawyer smirked at him, leaning against a tree twirling something between his fingers.

“Do you have to do that?” he growled and Sawyer’s turned indulgent… and amused. He pushed away from the tree, dropping whatever had been in his hand as he moved to the waters edge, looming over Boone before he stared out at the water.

It rippled gently. There was a slight breeze as Boone turned back to the bottles.

Above him Sawyer sighed like he had the weight of the world on his shoulders, Boone bit his tongue and didn’t ask what his problem was.

He felt the shift beside him as Sawyer dropped to a crouch and a glance over forced him to mask the surprise that raced through him at Sawyer’s closeness.

He focused on the bottles and on not putting a suitable distance between them, no sense in drawing Sawyer’s attention to something that would serve to amuse him even more.

“How long we been here now?” Sawyer asked suddenly and then Boone did look at him, surprised because Sawyer had been one of those people that had stopped keeping track of the number of days passing without rescue about two months prior.

“Four months, two weeks and three days,” Boone said. Shannon had a make-shift calendar; it had been someone’s checkbook once upon a time. Now Shannon (with a pen stolen from the supply that Boone had given to Jack on that first day) checked off each day as the sun set.

The day that Claire and her baby had died Shannon had obliterated from the book.

“Four months,” Sawyer nodded and Boone gnawed on his bottom lip. He had no idea where this conversation was going but he was pretty sure that he wasn’t going to like where it ended up.

“Four months,” Sawyer repeated and Boone nodded this time, trying to ignore the fact that Sawyer was seated now and his left leg was pressed up against Boone’s right. It had been four months, two weeks and five days since anyone besides Shannon had touched him.

If you didn’t count the pats on the back from Jack and Sayid squeezing his arm when he passed by. Or the time that Sawyer had beat him up.

“That’s a long time to go without sex,” Sawyer stared at the water like it was going to offer him the answer to all of his questions and Boone stared at it hoping that a man eating crocodile would suddenly appear so he wouldn’t have to answer any of the questions that he was sure were coming.

Sawyer would probably kill it before it could even try though and then make boots.

“Maybe some people have willpower,” Boone said stiffly, Sawyer’s snort showed what he thought of that statement and he stood in one graceful motion.

“Find it funny that even Hurley’s found someone to cuddle with at night and you still sleep with your sister. You’re a pretty boy, you shouldn’t have any difficulty finding someone willing to take her place,” Sawyer leered at him; Boone gaped at him in return, he was pretty sure his jaw was hanging on the ground.

He still hadn’t figured out what to say even after Sawyer had left with half the bottles he’d filled.

Because Sawyer had not just come on to him, so the sun must be getting to him finally and he’d probably pass out soon. He hoped someone other than Sawyer noticed he was missing and came looking.

******************************************************************************

By the time Boone arrived back at camp, the remaining water bottles in hand Sawyer had pulled one of his vanishing acts.

For which Boone could only be grateful because he still didn’t have a clue what to say to him.

Jack smiled at him as he made room for the bottles in their makeshift cooler, Boone was just happy to note that the ones that Sawyer had taken off with were already there. If Kate hadn’t disrupted the little peace accord Boone didn’t want to either. He settled cross-legged next to Jack and stared.

Jack didn’t notice.

He never noticed, but then Boone was thankful for the fact that most of the time Jack resembled an absent-minded professor.

“What are those?” Jack jerked his head at the two that Boone had dropped on the ground, empty.

“Couldn’t fill them, don’t think that these bottles were made to be refilled continuously.”

Jack frowned at them and rubbed at a bruise on his arm that Boone hadn’t noticed before. He tried not to gape at it.

It was shaped like two fingers. And there was a matching one on his other arm. Boone stoically didn’t mention them or ask the question that was fighting to break free.

“To be honest I’m surprised they’ve lasted as long as they have,” Jack said absently, still rubbing that bruise.

Boone bit his lip and hummed in response.

Jack looked over at him, a sudden smile replacing the frown as he pushed himself to his feet. He patted Boone’s back, his hand resting there for a few seconds longer than was strictly necessary.

It was warm against his skin and Boone tried not to whimper.

“Check with Sayid and see if he needs any help,” Jack squeezed his shoulder, smiled and then sauntered off. He pulled his shirt over his head as he moved and it took a full five minutes before Boone regained enough brain power to go find Sayid and offer his assistance.

******************************************************************************

Sayid was naked in the ocean.

Boone had to wonder when naked fishing had come about, he was pretty sure that he’d missed the meeting when it had been decided that was the only way that Sayid would do it.

“Morning Boone,” Kate smiled at him, a friendly smile and since she was still happily with the guy that even after having been four months Boone couldn’t remember his name he returned it.

“Afternoon,” Boone corrected, dragging his eyes very reluctantly away from naked Sayid to see the wider than usual smile on Kate’s face. He noted that she wasn’t even eyeing Sayid with a hint of longing or desire.

Highly suspicious, the man had a beautiful body.

Kate didn’t say anything for a second just stared at him; finally she winked at him and made to walk away.

“Nice view isn’t it.”

Boone choked.

******************************************************************************

He was still red when he walked down the beach. He’d kicked off his shoes up by the trees.

“Need any help?” he called, Sayid turned gracing him with a lovely smile and Boone’s heart stuttered and his inner fourteen year old sighed and swooned.

Sayid was, thankfully, currently in the water waist deep. Boone thanked alternate deities for that since he didn’t have the benefit of cover.

And naked Sayid might be more than his celibate body could take right at the moment, what with Sawyer leering at him and Jack stripping off shirts in front of him.

He’d probably spontaneously combust… or at least come, and he preferred to do that when he didn’t have people watching.

“Not having much luck today,” Sayid smiled at him and shrugged. Boone’s eyes narrowed because it was odd that Sayid didn’t seem to care about the lack of food to take back to camp.

“… Locke got a boar this morning, just was going to supplement it,” Sayid continued as if he could read Boone’s mind and that was a disturbing thought.

Especially considering what he normally thought about on a daily basis.

Sayid walked towards him and Boone determinedly kept his eyes focused on his face.

Not going to look, not going to look, not going to… fuck.

Modesty had become a thing of the past, they were in close quarters in the caves and something had to give. At two months in women and men stripped without a care to who was around or watching.

He tried to be good. Really. And he really tried not to look at the men that did interest him because that was like being shown a steak dinner and then having it yanked away.

See this attractive man? You can’t have him because he’s straight.

This was definitely hell.

******************************************************************************

Shannon cornered him when they got back to the caves. Latching onto his arm dragging him away from Sayid who had touched him no less then fourteen times on their way back to camp, and yes Boone had counted.

She dragged him into a clearing a short distance off from where they normally camped and then let him go, crossing her arms over her chest.

“Look… it’s not my fault,” she stated, eyes glittering at him.

“Um…” He didn’t say anything else because past experience suggested that he let her tell him what she’d done before he told her it was okay that she’d done it.

“And I only told Kate so you can’t blame me for it.”

“Blame you for what?” he asked warily. He was pretty sure he didn’t want to know what Shannon had told Kate; in fact he was almost positive.

“There’s some girl down at the beach camp who thinks you’re cute.”

“I don’t like girls Shannon, you know that,” Boone’s eyes widened and he wondered if anyone would notice if he beat Shannon with a stick.

“And now Kate knows as well.”

“You told Kate that I’m….” he couldn’t even say the words, which was odd because he hadn’t had a problem telling his father to his face even with the threat of disownment looming over him.

“Well she’d already mostly figured it out, what was I supposed to do.”

Deny it, he wanted to scream it at her. But he didn’t, because he’d never tried to hide what he was.

It just wasn’t anybody’s business.

“I think she might tell Jack and Sayid.”

And suddenly the day made a whole lot more sense.

Except for the part where Sawyer was leering at him and Jack was still stripping in front of him and Sayid was still fishing in the ocean naked.

Popular theory would dictate that they would be awkward and uncomfortable in front of him until one of them killed him for looking at them.

Shannon stared at him, she looked amused while Boone just wanted to cry. “I just wanted to warn you.”

Oh yes, yes, this so needs to be continued. I just... yes. Yes. This is completely Boone in this way that just makes my heart ache for him. And loved Shannon, she was just so spot on. Plus, Kate choosing someone else? Totally, totally cool.

I really can't wait to see where you're taking this. Wonderful start.
