Possession - Chapter 6

Jason was asleep, forehead pressed against her leg and once the nurses were finished reattaching all the wires that Jason had pulled off she’d have to ask one of them to see if he was running a fever.

She could feel the heat from his forehead through her jeans and on top of everything else she really didn’t want him to end up actually sick as well.

Every so often she’d look over at where Amy was untangling things and wonder what exactly she knew about Jason.

She knew that Lex had sent her with Jason partially to protect her in case the insane people he was dealing with actually decided to get more violent then pulling and waving a gun around, but also because it hadn’t escaped either of them that Amy had some knowledge (or at least Jason believed so) as to what was going on and both of them seemed to be of the same mind that leaving Jason alone with any of these people was a bad decision.

“Should we put him back into the gown?” Mandy asked, she’d picked it up from the floor where Jason had obviously tossed it and glanced over at Amy. They’d removed the t-shirt so that bandages could be changed but they hadn’t required him to remove the sweat pants that he’d had on.

Lana wasn’t even actually sure where they’d come from.

The dressers in the room were empty; most of the clothes that Jason had left behind prior to his disappearance had been packed in boxes and stored.

When they’d realized that they’d found him again, Lex had moved them from storage back to the master bedroom and now they shared drawers and closet space with Lex’s wardrobe and the few items that Lana kept there.

“He’ll be more comfortable in the sweats, but let’s not put a shirt on him just yet. We’ll just have to remove it whenever we change his bandages and since we’re doing that a couple of times a day right now…” Lana didn’t think she was imagining the tinge of annoyance in the nurses’ voice but was distracted from questioning her about it as the door was slowly being opened.

Lex entered first and smiled slightly at the sight they obviously made. Lana returned it until she saw crazy people following him into the room, then it fell from her face.

Her hand tightened around Jason’s, he made a noise low in his throat and his forehead pressed deeper into her leg.

“He’s asleep?” the younger of the crazy people asked sounding disappointed and Lana scowled when Lex let him pass into the room.

“Lana Lang, Sam and John Winchester,” Lex made the introductions in a voice that Lana had never heard before.

“Why are they here?” Lana asked, eyes narrowed and she knew that Lex wouldn’t have let them up here if he had any question concerning their relationship with Jason, but still…

“They’re his family,” Lex said in a quiet voice.

And Lana wanted to dispute that.

We’re his family, she wanted to cry. But she didn’t know these two men and she wouldn’t give them any more information then what it seemed they already knew.

So instead she said, “Jason doesn’t have any family, not alive anyway.”

“But Dean Winchester does,” Sam said softly.

Lana stared at them in incomprehension. Mind racing and she didn’t understand. Jason knew them and if this wasn’t Jason then why would he…?

“He knows me, he knows us,” she said forcefully. Her grips on Jason’s hand tightened again and his fingers squeezed back before relaxing.

“Lets just leave it at Dean Winchester and Jason Teague are, were the same person,” Lex glared when Sam opened his mouth as to contradict him. “No, honestly that’s the only way that we’re going to get through this and the other explanation would require some sort of time line presentation plus a suspension of reality and quite frankly I’m really not up to listening to it again.”

Lana grinned and she heard a small laugh from Jason.

“But you love your presentations,” Jason said in a drowsy voice. Lana leaned at an uncomfortable angle and pressed a kiss to his forehead.

Jason was awake and he’d tell the crazy people that they were just that, crazy. Then Lex would have the guards manhandle them out of the house and things would slowly be able to start returning to normal.

Sam knelt beside the bed and Lana scowled at him, shooting a look at Lex to remove the insane person before she kicked him, Lex ignored her so she directed her scowl at Sam.

Unfortunately he only had eyes for the waking Jason.

“Hey Sammy,” Jason blinked at him.

“Hey Dean,” Sam’s voice was soft, like he didn’t want to startle him. “You look better then you did the last time we saw you.”

“Well I don’t have gaping chest wounds anymore… and I can actually breathe without thinking about it.”

Sam put his hand on the side of the bed but made no move to actually touch him, Lana stared with wide eyes not quite understanding what was going on and why Lex was allowing it.

“This is Lana,” he squeezed her hand and Lana tried to smile down at him but couldn’t seem to make her mouth move into that shape.

“Lex already introduced us.”

Jason nodded and Lana wondered if she would have to get used to calling him Dean now and if Jason was a middle name and why hadn’t he told them that he had a brother and a father?

“I’m really tired,” he said, blinking slowly at them. “I think they’re giving me the really good drugs. We should sue that place, you know the one with the heart thing… they were holding out.”

“Go to sleep Dean,” Sam whispered, he sounded amused and Lana couldn’t figure out why. “We’ll be here when you wake up.”

“You and dad…”

“We’ll both be here when you wake up,” Sam glanced over his shoulder where John Winchester hadn’t made any move to interact with his son at all, just stared at him.

Lana wondered why, her gaze fell on Lex and he looked tired and just resigned to something and she knew that leaving the room with Jason Dean (or Dean Jason she’d have to ask him when he woke which name came first and which he preferred) had been a bad idea. She’d missed the explanations and now they were going to give her the cliff notes version and they’d leave something out that would come back to bite her in the ass later.

“It’s a really very long story,” he said, rubbed a hand over his face and turned to the door. “I’ll go tell someone to make up more guestrooms.”

“Is someone going to tell me what’s going on?”

******************************************************************************

Lana was asleep, laying on her stomach, face turned away and Lex stared at the ceiling for a moment before moving out of the bed.

Pulled a robe on, slippers on his feet and he left the room. He’d placed Jason, Dean he reminded himself, Dean in the room directly across from the master bedroom.

Mostly so if something happened in the middle of the night they were close.

He pushed the door open slowly, Amy was sitting in a chair, feet up as she flipped through a book and her eyes met his as he slipped into the room.

She put the book aside, stood and stretched.

“I’ll go get some coffee,” she whispered and he wondered at that until he remembered that there had been some talk about beginning to decrease the amounts and frequencies of painkillers they were giving Dean. Most likely in the hopes that it would decrease the chance of an addiction to one of them.

He waited until she was gone, door closing behind her before he made his way to the bed.

Dean was laying half on his side. Two pillows at his back, one hand shoved under the one under his head.

He looked peaceful and quiet and so utterly familiar that for a moment Lex wondered whether everyone was just insane.

“I can hear you thinking,” he murmured, eyes opening and Lex sat on the side of the bed. Hands in his lap, staring at the wall.

He could think of a hundred things that he wanted to say to Jason, starting with a lecture on betrayal and honesty. He couldn’t pinpoint one that he wanted to direct at Dean.

Because none of this had been his fault, besides having the misfortune to get nabbed by Genevieve Teague in the first place, he’d not been in charge of his faculties until after Jason had already left them. He couldn’t really be held accountable for things that Jason had done with his body.

He wondered what had driven Jason as insane as he’d been at the end.

“How much do you actually remember?” he asked finally. He had to know, so he could figure out how they were going to play this for the others.

Lana would have to be told the whole truth (as insane as it sounded) eventually.

Clark had been there when the explanations had been made and had seemed to both accept and understand them even with as crazy as they’d sounded.

That just left Martha and Chloe and his father. And they were most certainly not giving them the explanation that had been spun for him.

Amnesia was always good; twin brother could work as well. Whatever they chose to do they’d have to, unfortunately, get Clark’s buy-in. Because he knew the truth.

Neither of the men had been able to tell him what Dean would or wouldn’t remember.

Sam had sounded insistent that Dean had been there, just below the surface the entire time. That while he hadn’t been an active participant he definitely been aware of what was happening around him, he just hadn’t been able to control any of his actions or have an effect on the events happening around him.

John on the other hand hadn’t sounded so sure, maybe because he’d been exposed to Dean directly following whatever they’d done to rid him of Jason.

Lex wondered if that meant that Dean hadn’t ever mentioned him and Lana by name. Wondered if that was a good thing or a bad thing, especially since he didn’t think that John Winchester was going to be the most open-minded of people concerning his sons’ relationship with a man and a woman both.

Of course that may have been why Dean hadn’t said anything, Dean had to know his father, had to know how his dad would react to an announcement like that. And maybe he hadn’t wanted to rock the boat, especially since it appeared as if the younger son had been away at school for that time period.

“I remember all of it,” Dean closed his eyes, body curling closer to Lex, hand moving so that it lay still on the bed but also brushed against the side of Lex’s leg. “Some of it is really hazy, like it was a dream that I was having and I just couldn’t wake up. The stuff with you and Lana though, that’s all crystal clear.”

He sounded slightly bitter and when Lex moved a hand to lie over Dean’s, Dean turned it over and latched onto him, squeezing tightly and he swore that he could see the tension releasing from Dean’s body at the simple contact.

“What did you tell Lana?” he asked. Voice tired again and he didn’t open his eyes but he shifted so he was closer to Lex. If he hadn’t had the wounds on his chest Lex was almost positive that he would have been pressed along his back, would have pulled Lex down on the bed and curled around him like he’d done in the past.

Like Jason had done in the past.

Of course if he hadn’t had the wounds on his chest he would have been in the same room and same bed as him and Lana and Lex wouldn’t have had to crawl out of bed at 2 in the morning to visit him.

Maybe in a few days they could move him, if Dean was amenable. And that was always the question.

Jason had been theirs, and while Dean was the same body with the some of the same memories, he was a totally different person and how he chose to react to them, whether or not he still wanted them was up to him.

Nothing that Lex or Lana could say would change his mind if he chose to not be with them, although they could be quite persuasive when they put their minds to it.

Lex was inclined to believe, though it would take some time, that eventually Dean would be theirs in much the same manner that Jason had been. Only hopefully not as insane and inclined to attempt the bodily harm as Jason had been towards the end.

There was also the fact that Dean was comfortable with his touch as well as Lana’s, talked to them like he knew them and wasn’t afraid to admit it… well all that just led Lex to be even more sure that this was all going to work out in the long run.

And since Lex Luthor wasn’t normally inclined to a glass-half-full sort of outlook on things those had to be good things that couldn’t be ignored.

Lex shifted so he was sitting sideways on the bed, Dean draped an arm over his leg and pressed his forehead to Lex’s knee.

“Just that you and Jason were the same person,” he said softly, Dean frowned slightly and Lex brushed his thumb across the lines that appeared on his forehead. “I couldn’t tell her the other story it would have taken to long to explain and she would have thought we were all insane.”

“You could have had Sammy explain it.”

“She already thinks he’s crazy, that would have just sealed the deal.”

When I saw this had been updated, I was so pleased. I can't resist the idea that Dean was actually Jason, only Jason was a demon that was possessing Dean. And now Dean is back, and Jason is gone, and Dean has to deal with all the stuff Jason did. It's just all got me hooked.

This is wonderful, such a brilliant idea for a crossover. Although I can't stand Lana and NEED more Sam and Dean interaction (pretty please with sugar on top) it is brilliant.

Can't wait to read the next chapter!
