Awww, I would be sad if you gave up on writing Panic. The breakup has been really tough on me as well and don't even get me started on the drug picture but I think we shouldn't let them ruin fandom, too! I think we should at least get to still enjoy them in fic after they made it quite a bit harder to enjoy them in RL. *nods*
