FIC: Between Space & Time - Prequel
Jul. 7th, 2005 06:56 pmA short little prequel to Between Space & Time to tide you over to Monday because I leave for Maryland for a convention tomorrow morning.
This was written primarily because Anakin wanted to talk, and talk, and talk and this doesn’t fit anywhere within the current storyline but it fits right before the first part. It also contains some spoilers for Between Space & Time so if you haven't read that yet...
The rescue had gone as smoothly as any rescue they’d done before. They’d rescued Chancellor Palpatine, the ship they were on had almost been destroyed with them on it and Obi-Wan had been knocked unconscious.
It had been like any other assignment.
TITLE: Between Space & Time
RATING: R - because Ewan likes to cuss
PAIRING: nothing yet, will end up (eventually) Ewan/Anakin
Author: Melanie
DISCLAIMER: Heh, I own nothing. Ewan owns himself as does anybody else that is a real person in real life. George Lucas owns everyone that that is property of Star Wars. I make no money off of them. Don’t sue.
Between Space & Time – Prequel
The rescue had gone as smoothly as any rescue they’d done before. They’d rescued Chancellor Palpatine, the ship they were on had almost been destroyed with them on it and Obi-Wan had been knocked unconscious.
It had been like any other assignment.
The first thing Anakin had done upon arriving at the Jedi Temple was force Obi-Wan to get checked out. With the ruling of a slight concussion and a shot to alleviate whatever discomfort he might feel they’d started to make the short trek to the council room.
And that was when it had all changed.
When a routine assignment had become something else.
They’d been talking. Anakin had been picking on Obi-Wan about being knocked out and Obi-Wan had retaliated by asking him what number lightsaber he was on.
And then he’d crumpled.
One minute he’d been grinning, his Master’s beloved face crinkling as Obi-Wan laughed at him and then suddenly he was falling to the ground and Anakin had just stared in disbelief.
In shock.
He’d fallen to his knees, cradling Obi-Wan’s head in his lap, unsure of what to do.
Someone had called for help, not him, because he’d been sitting there unsure of what to do when Yoda appeared out of nowhere, Ki-Adi Mundi directing Healers to them.
They’d plucked Obi-Wan away from him, settling him onto to a stretcher that disappeared from view and Anakin just stared. Still not sure of what was going on.
A slight concussion, that was all the Healer had said. A slight concussion didn’t cause someone to just drop like Obi-Wan had.
He felt anger course through him at the thought that one of the Healers had put his Master in danger. Obviously more tests had needed to be done and they’d just released him and sent him on his way.
“…Skywalker…” he heard Mace Windu and realized that the Jedi Master was kneeling beside him. Face contorted into something that resembled compassion.
“What happened?” Anakin blinked at him not entirely sure of what to say.
“He collapsed,” he said blankly, because wasn’t that obvious? That Obi-Wan had collapsed, was unconscious, had been taken away by Healers that had left Anakin sitting on a cold floor alone, should have been obvious.
Mace looked at him like he couldn’t believe he was that much of an idiot, Anakin clenched his hands into fists and took a deep breath.
“Do you know why Young Skywalker?” Yoda peered at him and Anakin shook his head, felt the tingle of the Force as Yoda gazed at him judging his sincerity.
“We were just coming to report, and he just…” Anakin waved his hands at where Obi-Wan had fallen. “He just…”
“No indication that he was still feeling poorly he gave?” Anakin stared at the diminutive Jedi Master.
Obi-Wan had never given any indication that he’d told Yoda about the episodes.
About the two times that Anakin had come into the apartment they shared and found Obi-Wan staring into nothing. That it had taken him shaking and yelling at him to get his Master to even respond to him.
About the headaches that had incapacitated him for days before their last two missions.
“No…” Anakin shook his head and took a deep breath. “He… he’d actually been feeling better these last couple of days.”
“Calm yourself Skywalker,” Mace said harshly.
“Master Windu is correct, your fear and your rage, released to the Force they must be before we proceed and allow you to see Obi-Wan.”
Anakin took a deep breath, then another and tried to find his center within the Force.
It took minutes, felt like hours but finally he felt centered and calm once more.
“What’s wrong with him?”
“Know this we do not,” Yoda stared at him gravely. “Do not allow your emotions to rule your decisions. Care for Obi-Wan Kenobi we all do, everything within our power we will do to help him.”
