Battlestar Galactica 2003

laniew1I need a Battlestar Galactica icon... and well... this definitely isn’t the old one.
I enjoyed it. Which surprised me because I’m a huge fan of the original. Cheesy special effects, dialogue and everything. I blame Dirk Benedict’s Starbuck. Because he was my favorite character and was a pretty man. He was my very first crush. I was like nine. The one thing that could have ruined the whole thing for me was the fact that they recast him as a female.
1) So I’m pretty much alone with the Starbuck (Kara) / Apollo (Lee) shipping right? I think they’re very pretty together and the whole Starbuck/Zak relationship and the fact that she’s sort of indirectly responsible for his brothers death. Well built in angst.
2) The one thing I didn’t like was the new uniforms. I liked the old ones with the pants and the knee-high boots and the waist length coats. They were cool. I wanted one when I was a kid.
3) And its not Frack… its Feldercarb… although I really can’t see New!Starbuck actually saying it.
4) New Adama kicks ass. I didn’t really care for Ms. President (but that might have something to do with how I feel about the actress herself). I did really like Ms. President’s assistant. He was cute and looks so much like a grown up Bright that it threw me for like the first minute he was on screen.
5) The ship was so cool; I liked the documentary feel for the battle sequences (although if it does go to series I hope that doesn’t continue). The Vipers, beautiful, launch sequences, wonderful.
6) I know that a half a dozen people have mentioned that New!Starbuck was channeling Old!Starbuck and yes she was. So cool, and the cigar.
7) This will be the first show (mini-series, whatever) in a long time that I can see het and might actually write het. Hey if no one else is going to write what I want I might as well… when I’m done with what I’m working on now of course.
8) Boomer. *sobs* Oh god that’s going to hurt. And if goes to series I see them teasing us with it for the whole run and then last episode of the first season (if, *prays*) it will be revealed.
9) They kept Col. Tigh as a male but they couldn’t keep him as a black male? WTH??
10) Baltar is cool, cute… and quite obviously cracking up. It should be interesting to watch.
11) The sequence when Ms. President abandons those that can’t make the jump. Those radio calls were painful. Very, very painful. And the little girl just sitting there. Gah. They should have killed Boxey off and kept the little girl… maybe we’ll get lucky and when Boomer ‘wakes up’ she’ll kill him. Boxey was one of my least favorite aspects of the original series. As well as Serena… but they killed her in the original so I can deal with her now.
12) So Adama had two boys and no girl… they couldn’t find someone to fill in Athena’s shoes? Athena was one of my favorite characters; I hated Cassie and shipped Starbuck and Athena in the original. Hey I was nine.
13) The whole Earth setup… who else thinks that it’s going to be revealed that Adama lied and then they’ll find out that there’s really an Earth anyway.
So I liked and hope that we’ll find out prior to the 31st that it’s going to series. I won’t hold my breath though.
