(no subject)

So for my birthday I bought myself the original Battlestar Galactica. I’ve been slowly watching it over the last week or so and…

Because really… who else gets pissed off like that except a spouse. I’m talking about the episode where Starbuck finds out that Serina has replaced him as Apollo’s wingman and goes taking off in his viper in a snit and getting himself captured.

So. Married.

Or maybe not, because Apollo at the very least was still in the closet. So they were probably doing it like bunnies every possible second they could get alone.

Points of my one-time favorite Sci-fi show:

1) Starbuck is still as pretty as I remember him being. It should be illegal for him to be that pretty with a cigar hanging out of his mouth most of the time. I’m going to have the possibility in September to actually meet Dirk Benedict (as well as Richard Hatch and Herb Jefferson who I’ve already met) in Ohio. I hope I don’t drool on myself.

2) Apollo was a bit of a jack ass in this show. Of course I don’t remember liking him much back when I originally saw the show either. No wonder Starbuck took up with Athena and Cassie and Aurora. Apollo was still in the closet. Witness his quick wedding to Serina, witness his flirtation with Sheba. This is a man who wants his fathers’ approval in the worst way. He kind of reminds me of Martin… except I love Martin and without Starbuck pleading his case I might have killed Apollo if I’d had a chance.

3) Serina, Sheba and Boxey were plot devices of the worst sort. They could have all been sent to drift out in space and I wouldn’t have missed them. At. All. Does that make me a bad person?

4) Those uniforms. God I loved those uniforms. With the jacket and the boots and the tight pants and the capes. Gah. That’s going to take some getting used to in the new show. The new uniforms. Probably more so than having Starbuck be a woman. Maybe that’s the way that the PTB’s are going to justify a Starbuck/Apollo pairing in the new one. Because you sure as hell couldn’t miss it in the original. Unless you were blind. Or a kid.

5) I like new Baltar a lot better than old Baltar, although I like old Adama better than new Adama. The same with Tigh.

6) Richard Hatch is going to have a guest spot in the new BSG, I want Dirk to come in and play new!Starbuck’s father. You know, the Chameleon role from the original.

1) Without A Trace – WTF?! And what happened to Martin’s nervous breakdown? Did I blink and miss it or did the wonder that is Sam cure him. Christ, are the PTB blind, can’t they see that there is no chemistry between those two characters? I’m hoping for a speedy resolution to this whole thing, like Sam and Martin went back to her place and before anything could happen Jack called or the pod was found. Or we find out it was some horrible nightmare someone was having.

2) CSI – I love my show. I love Nick and I love Greg. But please for all that’s holy don’t put Grissom and Sara together next season. Please, just, no. I may, at times, read Grissom/Nick (normally only Em’s stuff) but other than that I can’t see Grissom having a relationship with anybody. Ever. Het or Slash.

3) Alias – So we have to wait until January to find out what Sydney found out? And didn’t we already know that Jack had done tests of some sort on Sydney when she was a child? I’m probably the only one that was okay with Lauren dying and that was mostly only because there was no way that they could redeem her (if they went that route) and Sloane is enough of a bad guy for the show. What do I hope for in January? That Sydney and Vaughn break up for good. And that Sydney either moves on or doesn’t date at all. I would be totally for either Sydney/Weiss or Sydney/Sark – but I can’t see either of them happening. Weiss would think he was stepping on Vaughn’s shoes and Sark is such a bad guy at this point that I think he’ll spend the majority of the season locked in his little cell.

4) Smallville – I’m really happy in my little Villa in Egypt. Its stress free and Clark and Lex are happy. I have a really nice view of the Nile, some really great neighbors. And while I’ll continue reading spoilers and episode synopses this show was permanently removed from my viewing schedule at the end of S1 and I don’t see it returning any time soon. Especially if they continue mucking with Superman mythology the way they are. I’m probably totally in the minority but if they turn Chloe into Lois Lane I may even sell my Villa in Egypt.

5) QAF – We’re what, almost half-way through the season. And while I’m, for the most part, enjoying it thus far… there hasn’t been nearly enough Michael/Brian interaction for my taste. I’m glad Justin’s little descent into violence is over. Ben is getting on my last nerve and if spoilers are to be believed he cheats or almost cheats on Michael and Michael marries him anyway. Please tell me Michael doesn’t know about it. Deb needs to get a life in the worst way, Emmett needs to move on just as bad, Ted and Blake are absolutely adorable and Vic died. I can’t believe they didn’t devote an entire episode to that. Especially since it’s been coming since Season 1.
